Vietnam and Canada have formalized an Action Plan aimed at strengthening their Strategic Partnership, highlighting key areas for enhanced bilateral cooperation. The plan, adopted by Vietnamese Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung and Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand during talks in Ottawa, seeks to transform commitments made by the countries’ leaders into actionable projects and programs.
The Action Plan encompasses a wide range of sectors including political and diplomatic relations, trade and investment, science and technology, digital transformation, healthcare, education, energy security, sustainable development, transport, infrastructure, defense and security, law enforcement, as well as cultural and people-to-people exchanges. This breadth of collaboration underscores the comprehensive nature of the partnership.
To ensure the effective implementation of the plan, both ministers emphasized the importance of regular reviews and updates, advocating for increased coordination among government agencies, local authorities, and businesses. They also pledged to fortify existing bilateral consultation mechanisms and explore new dialogue frameworks that hold strategic importance.
In addition to bilateral matters, the discussions touched on regional and international issues, with both nations agreeing to enhance their cooperation through multilateral platforms such as the United Nations, ASEAN, and APEC. Canada and Vietnam also committed to supporting each other in hosting APEC meetings in 2027 and 2029, respectively, and Vietnam expressed its support for Canada’s hosting of the Francophonie Summit in 2028.
