Must read

Vietnam and Laos have reaffirmed their dedication to strengthening bilateral cooperation and achieving tangible outcomes through closer ties. During Vietnamese Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng’s official visit to Laos on October 8, he met with Lao National Assembly President Sonexay Siphandone in Vientiane to discuss the strategic partnership between the two countries.

This visit marks Hưng’s first to Laos since becoming Vietnam’s prime minister. Both leaders emphasized their historical friendship and special solidarity, noting advancements in political relations, defense, security, foreign affairs, trade, and investment. They also recognized the importance of collaboration in education, transport, energy, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.

The discussions focused on implementing existing agreements and commitments, with a strong emphasis on translating diplomatic understandings into concrete actions. Both sides agreed on the necessity of improving the business environment, addressing regulatory obstacles, and accelerating key economic cooperation projects to boost investment between the countries.

Prime Minister Hưng urged the Lao National Assembly to support policies that would enhance the mobilization of public and private resources, improve development project implementation, and create beneficial conditions for Vietnamese and Lao businesses in each other’s markets.

The importance of cooperation between their national legislatures was also highlighted, with promises of exchanging delegations, sharing legislative experiences, and enhancing coordination at regional and international parliamentary forums. Furthermore, both countries prioritized promoting people-to-people exchanges, particularly among younger generations, to foster awareness of their shared history and strengthen public understanding of their longstanding friendship.

Looking ahead, the two nations are preparing for the Vietnam–Laos and Laos–Vietnam Year of Solidarity, Friendship, and Cohesion in 2027, which will commemorate the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation. Both leaders underscored the strategic importance of maintaining strong bilateral ties amidst changing regional and international conditions, pledging continued cooperation on development priorities to deliver tangible benefits for their people.
