PP Leader Faces Defamation Lawsuit Over Energy Policy Criticism

Must read

People’s Party leader Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut is facing a criminal defamation lawsuit filed by Gulf Development, which is also seeking 100 million baht in civil damages from him and two other MPs.
Natthaphong defended his remarks, saying he acted in good faith as an elected representative to ensure citizens pay fair electricity rates. He argued that electricity pricing is more than just figures on a bill but a significant burden on households and businesses.
He criticized the national energy plan for failing to address hidden costs, claiming it continues the practice of purchasing excess power and building unnecessary infrastructure. He warned that once long-term contracts are signed, they will lock future generations into costly obligations.
The PP has already petitioned the National Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate questionable energy procurement practices spanning past and present governments. Despite the lawsuit, Natthaphong reaffirmed his commitment to fighting for transparency in the energy sector and protecting the public interest.
