Thailand Uses Tech to Eliminate 2 Million Counterfeits, Saving THB2.1 Billion

Must read

Thailand is intensifying its battle against counterfeit products by destroying over 2 million items seized in intellectual property infringement cases. The country is taking significant steps to enhance intellectual property protection, with authorities reporting that 2.08 million goods are set to be disposed of this year. This marks a substantial increase of 36.45% from the 1.52 million items destroyed in 2025. The estimated value of these seized goods has also surged to THB2.14 billion, compared to THB900.91 million last year.

The crackdown encompasses a wide array of counterfeit goods, including clothing, watches, bags, electronic gadgets, vehicle parts, medicines, cosmetics, and a range of other consumer products such as food and beverages. Enforcement operations have been carried out across both online and offline markets to target the proliferation of fake items. The destruction process is being conducted at facilities equipped with environmental management systems in Samut Prakan and Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, ensuring that the disposal is safe and environmentally friendly.

Despite these efforts, Thailand remains on the Watch List in the 2026 Special 301 Report, which assesses global intellectual property protection and enforcement. To address these challenges, Thai authorities are working on an intellectual property work plan in collaboration with the United States. This initiative aims to bolster enforcement measures, reduce the sale of counterfeit products, safeguard consumers, and foster a more transparent business environment.

The ongoing efforts highlight Thailand’s commitment to curbing intellectual property violations and promoting a legitimate market. By collaborating with international partners and implementing stringent enforcement strategies, the country is striving to improve its standing on the global stage concerning intellectual property rights protection. These actions are expected to not only protect consumers but also create a more conducive environment for businesses.
