Vietnam and Malaysia Enhance Defense Ties Through Technological Collaboration and Innovation

Vietnam and Malaysia are advancing their defence cooperation efforts, aiming to bolster bilateral ties and contribute to the stability of the region. This development was highlighted during a meeting in Hanoi between Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister, General Phan Văn Giang, and Malaysia’s outgoing Ambassador Dato’ Tan Yang Thai. During their discussions, Giang commended the ambassador for his significant contributions toward enhancing the partnership between the two countries.

General Giang emphasized the positive strides made in defence relations, noting the frequency of military exchanges, policy discussions, joint training initiatives, and collaborative efforts at international and multilateral forums. These activities underscore the commitment of both nations to a robust defence partnership.

The Vietnamese defence minister expressed a desire for the continued execution of existing agreements and advocated for increased engagement through high-level meetings and established defence cooperation mechanisms. Such initiatives are seen as vital for maintaining the momentum in their collaborative efforts.

In a forward-looking gesture, General Giang extended an invitation to Malaysia’s defence leaders and companies to attend the Vietnam International Defence Expo 2026, scheduled to take place in Hanoi. This event is expected to provide further opportunities for collaboration and showcase advancements in defence capabilities.

Ambassador Dato’ Tan Yang Thai, in his remarks, conveyed gratitude to Vietnam’s defence ministry and military for their support during his tenure. He expressed optimism that the defence relationship between Vietnam and Malaysia will continue to flourish, thereby supporting peace and prosperity across the region.
