Vladimir Putin has positioned the SCO and BRICS as the essential pillars in the construction of a new, “fairer” global order. Ahead of the SCO summit, the Russian President emphasized the collective power of these groups to challenge the current international system and respond to pressing global issues.
He directly targeted Western sanctions, arguing they are designed to hinder the socioeconomic development of BRICS members and other nations. In response, Putin stated that Russia and China are united in a mission to strengthen BRICS’s global influence and its ability to act as a counterweight to established Western-led institutions.
The SCO, according to Putin, contributes to this vision by promoting a multipolar world based on international law and the central role of the UN. He stressed the importance of creating an “equal and indivisible security” architecture in Eurasia, a key objective for the organization’s member states.
This strategic push is underpinned by the powerful Russia-China relationship, which Putin described as being at an “unprecedented level.” Their booming trade, de-dollarization efforts, and shared political goals provide the momentum for advancing this ambitious agenda at the upcoming summit in Tianjin.
