Must read

Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino’s official visit to Vietnam from October 5 to 8 is set to enhance the bilateral relations between Vietnam and Panama, with a focus on expanding cooperation in several key sectors. The two nations aim to bolster economic and trade ties, particularly in agriculture, telecommunications, infrastructure, maritime transport, port logistics, banking, tourism, and education.

Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1975, Vietnam and Panama have built a strong foundation through high-level exchanges and diplomatic consultations. Both countries are now exploring ways to leverage their strategic geographical positions to connect Southeast Asian and Latin American markets, thereby facilitating greater economic cooperation.

Bilateral trade between the two nations reached approximately $478.1 million in 2025, marking a 19.2% increase from the previous year. Vietnam’s exports to Panama include footwear, electronics, textiles, vehicles, and seafood, while Panama exports timber, seafood, and raw materials to Vietnam. Panama’s strategic location along the Panama Canal positions it as a vital player in global shipping and logistics, presenting opportunities for Vietnamese businesses to access Central American and Caribbean markets more effectively.

The upcoming visit is anticipated to result in new agreements and initiatives aimed at boosting trade, investment, and cooperation across various sectors. Both countries are also expected to reinforce existing mechanisms for political and economic collaboration, setting the stage for a more robust partnership.
