Vietnamese Party General Secretary and State President To Lam has emphasized the crucial role of sports and physical education in enhancing national strength and health. During a recent meeting focused on sports development, Lam advocated for increased investment in these areas as integral parts of the country’s human development and workforce strategies.
Lam underscored the importance of treating sports not just as cultural and social activities but as essential components of public health. He called for enhanced focus on school sports, recommending improved facilities, better equipment, and the hiring of qualified teachers. Additionally, he suggested that public sports facilities be made more accessible outside school hours and highlighted the need for dedicated exercise spaces in urban areas, residential communities, and industrial zones.
For elite sports, Lam proposed the establishment of a long-term talent development system that includes early athlete identification, professional training, scientific support, and participation in international competitions. He stressed the need for targeted investment in athletes and sports disciplines with the potential for international success.
Lam also highlighted the significance of integrating sports science, medicine, nutrition, recovery, psychology, and data-driven training to boost athletic performance. He advocated for the development of the sports economy, urging greater participation from society and the private sector while ensuring government oversight and strengthening the role of sports organizations.
By prioritizing sports development, Lam aims to bolster Vietnam’s national health and elevate its international standing in sports, reflecting a broader strategy to enhance the country’s overall human resources and economic growth.
