The reinforced cooperation between police forces in Vietnam and Cambodia is set to significantly bolster security and public order along their shared border, tackling a range of cross-border crimes more effectively. This development is expected to curb illegal activities such as drug and human trafficking, smuggling, and online fraud, enhancing safety and stability in the region.
At a recent conference held in Vietnam’s Tây Ninh Province, police officials from Tây Ninh and Cambodia’s Svay Rieng, Prey Veng, and Tboung Khmum provinces agreed on measures to improve coordination. They emphasized the importance of direct communication and regular meetings to facilitate the quick exchange of information and prompt response to cross-border crime incidents.
The provinces have committed to maintaining robust information exchanges and coordinated efforts in combating criminal activities. This includes ramping up patrols and monitoring of border trails and crossings to prevent illegal entry and exit, which could otherwise facilitate organized transnational crime.
Furthermore, the collaboration aims to address non-traditional security challenges, with a particular focus on counter-terrorism, arms trafficking, and high-tech crime. By strengthening patrols and surveillance measures, the joint efforts seek to deter potential threats before they escalate.
The conference concluded with the signing of a memorandum of cooperation, underscoring the commitment of the four provincial police forces to enhance crime prevention strategies and maintain security in the border areas.
