Rupert Grint is poised to revisit the iconic role of Ron Weasley in the Broadway production of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” marking his return to the character over a decade after the final Harry Potter film. Grint, who brought Ron to life in all eight films of the franchise alongside Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, will join the celebrated stage production for a 17-week stint starting in February 2027.
Reflecting on his return to the character, Grint expressed his enduring connection to Ron Weasley, noting, “Ron Weasley has been a part of me since I was 11 years old and I can’t wait to meet him again at this stage of life.” The actor highlighted the unique experience of portraying Ron as a father, a role that parallels his own life, bringing both familiarity and novelty to his performance.
Grint’s upcoming appearance follows Tom Felton’s successful reprise of Draco Malfoy in the same Broadway production. Felton’s portrayal of Malfoy on stage will continue until January, highlighting a trend of original film cast members returning to their beloved roles in this theatrical adaptation. “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” which debuted in London in 2016, has since expanded globally, captivating audiences with over 14 million tickets sold across multiple international venues. The New York production alone has amassed more than $532 million in revenue.
Making his initial foray into Broadway in 2014 with the comedy “It’s Only a Play,” Grint has since diversified his acting portfolio with roles in films such as “Knock at the Cabin,” “Charlie Countryman,” and “Nightborn.” His return to the enchanted universe of Harry Potter coincides with the development of a new television series for HBO, aimed at introducing the magical saga to a fresh generation of viewers.
