Thailand is set to implement a shift in its visa policy, ceasing the temporary 60-day visa-free entry scheme that had been advantageous to travelers from various countries, including India. Under the newly approved regulations, Indian passport holders will need either a Visa on Arrival (VoA) upon arrival in Thailand or an e-Visa prior to departure, thereby ending the extended visa-free stay.
The Visa on Arrival will now permit Indian visitors to remain in Thailand for up to 15 days per entry, a notable reduction from the previous 60-day allowance. To circumvent the potential delays at airports, travelers can opt to apply for an e-Visa through Thailand’s official online system before embarking on their trips. Industry analysts suggest that this change could potentially dampen spontaneous travel and last-minute holiday bookings due to the additional documentation, application process, and associated visa fees.
Despite the changes, Thailand is likely to continue being an appealing destination for Indian tourists, thanks to its affordability, convenient flight connections, a wide range of tourism offerings, and robust hospitality sector.
