Vietnam and Azerbaijan are seeking to bolster their strategic partnership by enhancing cooperation in trade, travel, and various sectors. During a meeting in Baku on October 14, Vietnamese Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, along with First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva, discussed expanding bilateral relations. The talks coincided with Xuan’s attendance at the seventh Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA).

The leaders highlighted the potential to strengthen economic, trade, and investment ties, focusing particularly on oil and gas, energy, transport, agriculture, tourism, education, science, and technology. They explored joint energy projects and ways to encourage businesses from both countries to explore investment opportunities.

Both nations committed to enhancing high-level exchanges and improving coordination between government agencies. They plan to implement existing bilateral agreements more effectively and are considering visa exemptions for ordinary passport holders. Additionally, the establishment of direct air routes was discussed to facilitate travel, tourism, and business exchanges.

The discussions also emphasized cooperation in culture, education, mining, and aluminum production, alongside fostering people-to-people ties. Vietnam and Azerbaijan pledged to deepen coordination at regional and international forums, support multilateralism, and uphold the United Nations Charter and international law.
