Vietnam and Denmark have elevated their bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, aiming to enhance cooperation in areas such as trade, technology, and sustainable development. This significant agreement was announced during the state visit of Vietnamese President and Communist Party General Secretary To Lam to Denmark from October 19 to 21, 2026, marking the 55th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations.
The new partnership builds upon the existing Comprehensive Partnership from 2013 and the Green Strategic Partnership launched in 2023. It seeks to expand political dialogue, parliamentary exchanges, and economic cooperation, particularly focusing on renewable energy, green technology, and digital transformation. Both countries have pledged to bolster business investment and supply chains, improving market access through current trade agreements.
A key component of the partnership is the commitment to deepen cooperation on climate action and the development of renewable energy projects, aligning with Vietnam’s objective of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. The agreement also includes collaboration in fields such as maritime security, cybersecurity, research, vocational training, agriculture, and public health.
Vietnam and Denmark have reaffirmed their dedication to international law, multilateral cooperation, and peaceful dispute resolution, expressing support for regional stability and stronger ties with ASEAN. Both governments will develop action plans to implement the partnership, translating their commitments into practical initiatives.
