Vietnam and Switzerland Enhance Trade and Innovation Ties with New Initiatives

Must read

Vietnam and Switzerland have taken significant steps to enhance their Comprehensive Partnership, focusing on trade, investment, and technology collaboration. This development follows the official visit of Swiss President Guy Parmelin to Vietnam, which marked the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

During the visit, the leaders of Vietnam and Switzerland reiterated their commitment to strengthening political dialogue and economic ties. They agreed to foster collaboration through international institutions and expand exchanges among government agencies, businesses, universities, and research organizations. A pivotal achievement of the discussions was the signing of a Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), which includes Switzerland. This agreement is expected to facilitate market access and boost trade and investment opportunities upon its implementation.

The two countries aim to increase their bilateral trade, which surpassed $1 billion in 2025, and to encourage more Swiss investment in Vietnam. Key sectors targeted for growth include green finance, digital technology, infrastructure, sustainable tourism, and workforce development. Furthermore, the partnership seeks to advance joint research and technology transfer in areas such as biomedicine, renewable energy, agriculture, and the digital economy.

Education is another area where Vietnam plans to deepen its partnerships with Switzerland, leveraging the latter’s expertise in education and scientific research. This includes exchanges involving experts, researchers, and students to bolster educational ties and innovation.

Both nations have reiterated their support for sustainable development, free trade, and multilateral cooperation within a rules-based international order. They express confidence that strengthened collaboration will not only enhance economic growth but also contribute to regional and global stability.
