Việt Nam Urges Enhanced ASEAN+3 Collaboration on Digital Innovation and Technological Growth

At the ASEAN+3 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Manila, Việt Nam underscored the need for enhanced economic integration and reinforced regional resilience. Vietnamese Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung called upon ASEAN nations, along with China, Japan, and South Korea, to intensify their collaborative efforts in areas such as trade, connectivity, and sustainable development. The minister highlighted the significance of robust implementation of regional trade agreements and urged for expanded cooperation in crucial sectors like energy security, food security, digital transformation, innovation, and clean energy.

In his address, Minister Trung proposed the exploration of regional energy cooperation mechanisms to bolster resilience against potential economic and geopolitical challenges. This call for deeper collaboration aims to prepare the region for future uncertainties by focusing on sustainable practices and interconnected solutions.

The meeting served to reaffirm the critical role of ASEAN+3 as a platform for regional cooperation. Member countries reached a consensus on expediting the ASEAN+3 Work Plan 2023–2027, which outlines strategic efforts to strengthen regional ties. Key areas of focus include enhancing financial cooperation, expanding regional food reserves, promoting renewable energy initiatives, and increasing investments in education, technology, tourism, and cultural exchanges.

China, Japan, and South Korea reiterated their commitment to supporting ASEAN’s central position in regional affairs. The three countries pledged to continue their assistance in advancing the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, emphasizing their dedication to fostering a more integrated and resilient regional community.
