Vietnam has underscored its increasingly influential role in enhancing cooperation between ASEAN and Russia, following the recent ASEAN–Russia Commemorative Summit, which celebrated 35 years of dialogue relations. Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung noted that Vietnam played a pivotal role in the summit’s success, advocating for ASEAN’s central role and supporting initiatives to strengthen the bloc’s strategic partnership with Russia.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng, the Vietnamese delegation highlighted the importance of dialogue, cooperation, peaceful dispute resolution, and respect for international law. In addition, Vietnam proposed the expansion of collaboration in vital sectors such as energy, trade, transport connectivity, agriculture, and digital transformation. These proposals align with the new frameworks adopted at the summit, aimed at enhancing ASEAN–Russia cooperation through 2030, with energy identified as a significant pillar of the partnership.

In a demonstration of its commitment to future regional cooperation, Vietnam announced plans to host the ASEAN–Russia Young Diplomats Summit in 2027. This initiative reflects Vietnam’s dedication to nurturing strong regional ties and fostering the next generation of diplomatic leaders. The summit’s outcomes are expected to reinforce ASEAN–Russia relations, bolster regional stability, and pave the way for new economic growth and cooperation opportunities across Eurasia.

On the summit’s sidelines, Prime Minister Hưng engaged in discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the Vietnam–Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Their discussions centered on broadening collaboration in areas such as energy, trade, infrastructure, science and technology, education, and transport. These talks signify a mutual desire to deepen bilateral ties and explore new avenues for partnership.
