Must read

In a bid to bolster cooperation between Vietnamese and northeastern Cambodian provinces, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyễn Minh Vũ recently led a delegation to the regions of Stung Treng and Kratie. The visit aimed at enhancing bilateral ties and evaluating the state of Vietnamese business ventures and the conditions of residents of Vietnamese descent in these areas.

Key discussions with Cambodian local officials centered around expanding partnerships in several sectors, including trade, agriculture, infrastructure, energy, and investment. Cambodian authorities noted the strengthening of relations with Vietnamese provinces through various cooperation agreements and joint development projects. This collaboration has been particularly evident in Kratie province, where significant strides have been made in diplomatic and socio-economic domains, supported by infrastructure development and efforts to repatriate the remains of Vietnamese soldiers from wartime.

Ambassador Nguyễn Minh Vũ acknowledged the positive impact of Vietnamese enterprises involved in agriculture, mining, and rubber production in Cambodia. These business activities have contributed significantly to the local economy and reinforced the bilateral relationship between the two nations. In Stung Treng, the local leadership highlighted the province’s potential for investment in high-tech agriculture and eco-tourism, urging more Vietnamese firms to consider the opportunities available in the region.

Engagement with the Vietnamese-origin community also formed a crucial part of the ambassador’s agenda. He addressed legal and livelihood concerns and encouraged compliance with Cambodian laws, while also advocating for advancements in education and sustainable development initiatives. This community outreach is part of broader efforts to integrate the Vietnamese-origin populace into local society.

Vietnam’s economic footprint in Cambodia is significant, with over 200 investment projects and a total registered capital of approximately $3 billion, ranking it among Cambodia’s top foreign investors. The ambassador’s visit underscores the continued commitment to strengthening these economic and social ties, fostering a collaborative future for both countries.
