Following nearly two weeks in secure hiding, Iran’s Supreme Leader made his first televised appearance looking significantly more aged than in previous broadcasts. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s speech, delivered in a weakened voice with occasional stumbles, revealed the physical impact of the recent military crisis.
The 86-year-old leader addressed the extensive damage to Iran’s nuclear program while disputing American claims of complete obliteration. UN nuclear agency officials confirmed that US bunker-buster bombs had caused enormous damage to multiple facilities, representing a significant setback to Iranian nuclear development.
Khamenei presented Iran’s strike against American forces in Qatar as proof of his country’s ability to project power despite the devastation. He characterized this action as both successful retaliation and demonstration that Iranian forces could target US interests throughout the Middle East when necessary.
The ceasefire agreement has provided both countries with breathing room while they maintain their hostile positions. Iran has begun normalizing operations, including partial airspace reopening and restoration of commercial activities, while signaling its intention to continue nuclear development despite international pressure.
